Paul's personal story

"I was once a healthy tennis pro & instructor. But, in recent years, I allowed my own health to deteriorate to the point where I put my life in danger and on a couple of occasions, I found myself lying on a hospital bed wondering if I was going to live or not. Three arteries were 95% blocked which led to three stents being surgically placed into me in February of 2007.

With my doctor's permission, I attempted to play tennis. Talk about a serious slap in the face. In less than 10 minutes, I was done. I was completely out of shape, huffing & puffing and feeling miserable.

My motivation is my family
Having lost my wife Karen to cancer four years ago, I was thinking more about my two children and their future and I realized if I don't turn things around and start taking better care of my health, I won't see my kids graduate from high school and college. I won't see them get married and if they have kids, I won't see my grand children or get to play with them. If I wasn't here to do those things, then what is life really all about?

I mean life is short anyway. Why shorten it more by not keeping my body in shape and miss out on all of the happiness and love that every family should experience?

My other motivation is my wallet
By neglecting my health for years, I became pre-diabetic, developed high blood pressure, several gastro and intestinal problems like acid reflux and I wasn't sleeping well so I was always tired and I had no energy! Those were my symptoms of being 80 pounds overweight.

Add in the prescription medicine I was taking to gain some relief and I was spending over $300.00 per month. Ouch...that hurt almost as much as being over weight & unhealthy.

How I got started
I finally got sick & tired of being sick & tired so I started to diet & exercise several months ago. I hired a personal trainer (although you don't need to in order to get started) and I'm pleased to announce I am down to 260 pounds (A 40 pound weight loss!) and I feel so much better. My goal is to lose another 40 pounds by May 31, 2008 and weigh in at 220 pounds!
